Silver medal for Camelia Potec in the World Short Course Swimming Championships

Romanian swimmer Camelia Potec has got the silver medal at 400 m freestyle in the world short course swimming championships in Manchester (England), with 4 min 01 sec 06/100, a new national record. Australian Kylie Palmer took the gold medal with 3 min 59 sec and 23/100.

Camelia Potec also ranked fourth in 800 m freestyle competition, with 8 min 17 sec 08/100. ROMPRES

Romania wins gold medal in gymnastics team standings

Romania on Saturday won the gold medal in the team standings at the European Championships in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics at Clermont-Ferrand, leaving Russia and France behind.

Romania’s team came first with a combined total of 181.525 points and was followed by Russia, 197.475, and France, 177.175. The other places were taken by Italy, 4th, Ukraine, 5th, Great Britain, 6th, Germany, 7th, and the Netherlands, 8th.

Romania’s team got the highest marks in vaults, 44.050, beam, 46.450, and floor, 45.950, whereas in parallel bars it had the 3rd highest mark in the competition, 45.975.

It is the first gold medal won by the Romanian women’s gymnastics after the 2006 European championships at Volos when Catalina Ponor and Sandra Izbasa came off with flying colours in the beam and floor events and the first for teams after the 2004 Olympic Games. ROMPRES

Three years after the first Romanian, Romeo Dunca, participated in the 2005 Paris-Dakar rally, at the motorcycle category, Romania records a new first: the first Romanian team (Gabi Nicolae-driver, Liviu Stan, co-driver) at the start of the 2008 edition of the car category, in a Mitsubishi L200 Taifun. World Women’s Handball Championship: Romania defeats Germany and plays against France in quarterfinals

Romania’s handball national team defeated Germany 32-24 (16-12) on Tuesday in Dijon in Group M2 at the World Championship of France and is to meet the host team in quarterfinals on Thursday. Read more
