Yahoo.ro portal and Romanian-language mail service to launch in Q4 2010

The Romanian-language Yahoo! homepage and mail service will be functional starting Q4 of 2010, several months later than expected given the need to prepare a new version of the e-mail service, market sources have told HotNews.ro. A confirmation of Yahoo! expansion plans came on Wednesday with an announcement that the area of services offered by the IBM support center in Cairo extends for Romanian and other seven European languages.

Romanian PM says all ministers go to flood affected areas following Government session

Romanian PM Emil Boc ordered all ministers to leave to areas affected by floods across the country once the Government session on Wednesday was over. According to the latest Government data, the flood toll so far on Wednesday afternoon was: 22 dead, 7,000 evacuated people, 2,917 flooded households and 206 destroyed homes.

Romanian authorities were on alert on Wednesday as floods caused havoc in several parts of the country. Danube was reaching historical levels in East Romania, but the situation was under control in that part of the country. Meanwhile, in SW Romania, a woman died on Tuesday night, upping the floods death toll to 21. According to meteorologists, rain there poured 150 liters/sqm in less than half an hour.

The Romanian national currency, leu decreased to a new record to the euro currency after the Bucharest Executive announced that the economy will contract in 2010 more than estimated, the Wall Street Journal reads. The euro appreciated in the same afternoon in which Finance Minister Vladescu announced that the government decided to decrease estimates for this year with a 1-2% contraction – a consequence of the austerity measures like the VAT increase and budgetary sector salary decreases.
