The Chinese business environment already showed interest in infrastructure projects and economic cooperation with Romania, but the intentions are up in smoke. The volcanic ash cloud smoke, that is. Romania's economic delegation, headed by Economy minister Adriean Videanu, needed to be in Shangai before the Expo 2010 opening today. It didn't make it. The only Economy reps are the representatives from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovenia – part of six countries group where car production increased last year

Out of the 39 states that produced over 10,000 cars last year, only six recorded production growth. Romania is one of them. The other five are China, India, the Czech Republic, Taiwan and Slovenia, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). The global car production dropped 13.5% last year, from around 70 million automobiles to 60 million. For the first time, China was world leader.

IMF could revise Romania's economic growth. New estimate: zero

Romanian Foreign Affairs minister Sebastian Vladescu said on Friday, April 29 that the VAT was not going to go up. The statement was made as the discussions with the International Monetary Fund were concluding in Bucharest. He found the negotiations “constructive”. But on the other hand, the IMF could again revise downwards Romania's 2010 economic growth, taking it from 0.8% to nought, according to the patronages reps, who also took part in the discussions. According to participants, IMF mission chief Jeffrey Franks declared that their analysis indicated a zero economic growth in Romania's best scenario. Sources close to the discussions told HotNews.ro that the issue of the rise in VAT was also raised. Asked whether he would recommend the Romanian authorities to increase the VAT, Jeffrey Franks said “Give me other options!”, UGIR-1903 president Cezar Coraci confirmed.
