March of Santa Clauses in Bucharest enters Guiness Book of World Records

December 21, 2008

The Bucharest City Hall, with help from Coca Cola, has succeeded in hitting record on Sunday by having 4,000 people dressed like Santa Clause marching in the Constitutiei Square in the Romanian capital, ‘with this representing the largest number of Santa Clauses ever offering gifts on the streets.’ Thus, Romania enters a new chapter of the Guinness Book of World Records.

‘This is a new section of the Guinness World Records. The international organization sent a representative to Romania to attend the event and confirm it. The conditions imposed by Guinness World Records were the number of Santa Clauses to exceed 3,000, with the gifts to be wrapped in red boxes,’ the organizers said.

There were thus tailored 4,000 suits in Santa Clause’ workshop, for Bucharesters who wanted to wear them at the Santa Clauses’ March.

According to the www.marsulmosilor.ro Web page, there were 3,837 people registered to participate in the event.

During the March, each Santa Clause carried a red box to offer it to the people in Consitutiei Square. The boxes contained products from Coca Cola company and Cadbury Romania.

‘This is the most important gathering of Santa Clause offering gifts. This is the true spirit of Christmas. We are all better and more generous now. I want to thank our sponsors for together we have managed to offer Bucharest not a Santa Clause but thousands,’ Bucharest general mayor Sorin Oprescu said in his speech on this occasion. AGERPRES
