Patriarch Daniel to attend Aleksei II burial ceremony

Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) Patriarch Daniel and the Metropolitan Bishop of Moldavia and Bukovina Teofan are to attend the burial ceremony of the departed Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Aleksei II, due at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow, on Tuesday.
Patriarch Aleksei II will be buried, as he wished, in the Lord’s Baptism Cathedral in Moscow.

Late Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Aleksei II, who had been heading the Russian Orthodox Church since 1990, passed away 79 of age at his residence in Peredelkino, 25 km southwest of Moscow, on Friday Dec 5.

Aleksei II burial ceremony takes place in Moscow on Tuesday Dec 9 and one day after the Holy Synod is to establish the date of the Council to elect the new Patriarch. Metropolitan Kiril of Smolensk and Kalingrad is to be caretaker Patriarch till the election of the new Patriarch. AGERPRES
