Audio-visual regulatory body: Broadcasting surveys 48 hrs ahead of election banned
November 28, 2008
The National Audio-Visual Council (CNA) reminds the Romanian radio and television stations that ‘broadcasting surveys or street questioning’ is banned from Thursday midnight, i.e. 48 hours ahead of the voting day, in line with the provisions of Law no. 35 of March 13, 2008 on the election of the Deputies’ Chamber and Senate.
The Council will keep on monitoring, on the election day of Sunday included, the manner in which the television channels and radio stations observe the legal provisions on the conduct of the election campaign and it will take action as applicable.
The election campaign in the audio-visual media began on Oct. 31 and it will end on Nov. 29 at 7 a.m. according to a CNA decision on the principles and rules for the conduct of the election campaign for the Deputies’ Chamber and Senate.
Law no. 35 bans the broadcast of electoral programmes, debates or news 24 hours before the start of voting and it also forbids that candidates be guests or be presented in programmes or commentaries on the election campaign. AGERPRES
