October 31, 2008

Transgaz and Romgaz representatives will meet the Russian company Gazprom managers again in December, Transgaz says in a press release published on the Web site of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

Transgaz general manager Ioan Rusu and Romgaz deputy general manager Lucian Stancu on Wednesday, Oct. 29 met in Bucharest a visiting delegation of the Russian company headed by Vlada Rusakova, member of the Board of Directors and head of the Department for Strategic Development.
The parties analyzed the perspectives of cooperation in the field of underground gas depots and the alternatives for the development of the existing transit facilities and the creation of new such facilities on the Romanian territory taking into account the South Stream gas pipeline system designed in Central and Southern Europe.

South Stream is a system of natural gas pipelines to connect Russia to Europe through the Black Sea waters. The pipeline crossing the Black Sea will be roughly 900-km long, while the maximum depth will be of 2,000 metres and the volume delivered when exiting the waters will amount to some 31 billion cubic metres.

Russia started in 1979 the supply of natural gas to Romania. In 2007 Gazprom delivered 3.93 billion cubic metres to Romania.

The export of Russian gas to Romania is based on two long-term contracts, valid until 2030, concluded with Conef Energy and WIEE.

Two weeks ago, following the invitation of Romanian ambassador to Russia Constantin Grigore the general managers of Romgaz SA Francisc Toth and Transgaz SA Ioan Rusu met the management of the Gazprom company, represented by president Alexei Miller and general manager of Gazpromexport Alexander Medvedev.
