President Basescu appeals to unions to postpone strikes by Dec

Romania’s President Basescu launched, late on Thursday an appeal to the trade unions urging them to postpone strikes by December, after the elections.

‘I would also make an appeal to the trade unions, an appeal, which I am ready to double with talks guaranteeing them that the next Government will show readiness and discuss the matter of the reforms for money and I ask the unions to give up strikes in November. I think the chosen moment is not the right one. I appeal to the trade unions to put off the protest rallies, till after the elections, namely by December,’ President Basescu told a conference at Cotroceni Palace, only one day before the campaign for the parliamentary elections, is to begin.
