Moody’s does not contemplate changing Romania’s sovereign rating

Moody’s is not considering a change in Romania’s sovereign rating in the near future, the rating agency’s analyst for Eastern Europe Kenneth Orchard told a television channel. In his opinion, for the time being, Romania is well positioned among investor grade states, but a budget deficit wider than 7 pct of the GDP could indeed change the situation.

From Moody’s standpoint, there will be no rating downgrade in the near future and the outlook is stable. We believe that Romania’s rating is well positioned in the investment grade category and we see no change in the near future, said Kenneth Orchard.

A budget deficit of 8-9 pct of the GDP, like in Hungary a few years ago, would have indeed caused the agency’s concern, prompting it to reconsider the rating, said Moody’s analyst. AGERPRES
