Romania and US discuss on security in Black Sea area

Romanian Defence Minister Teodor Melescanu has discussed with his American counterpart Robert Gates at the headquarters of the US Defence Department on the military cooperation between Romania and the US and the security in the extended Black Sea area, Romanian Ministry of Defence (MAp) announced in a release on Thursday to Agerpres.

During the meeting at Pentagon on Wednesday, Minister Melescanu and the US Secretary for Defence Robert Gates approached ’such concrete means for Romania and the US to contribute together to consolidate peace and security in such areas where they operate as allies,’ said the abovementioned source.

Moreover, the agenda of the talks between the two officials included such issues referring to the transformation of the NATO, as well as to the evolution of the process to restore peace in the Near East.

Teodor Melescanu is currently paying a five-day visit to the US, where he is to meet such political personalities of the US State Department and National Security Council, as well as leaders of the Congress, according to the MAp. AGERPRES
