President Basescu remarks solidarity of political class at difficult moments

September 24, 2008

President Traian Basescu appreciated, on Wednesday, the solidarity of the Romanian political class, at difficult moments of foreign policy, such as that related to the status of Kosovo province, but also in fields of national interest.

‘I think, first, of the unilateral proclamation of the independence of Kosovo province. Then, all the parties supported the stance of the Romanian state, which did not recognize this unilateral act, like other EU and NATO member states, ‘ said the head of state before the two chambers of Parliament.

He also remarked the solidarity of Parliament in this issue, showing that another moment of common recognition of a target of national interest was the signing by all the parliamentary parties of the pact for Education.

‘The drawing up of this document has shown that the political and social players recognize the need of important changes in the field of education, that they want that the main directions of action be not questioned each time the Government changes,’ said Basescu. AGERPRES
