Irish President Mary McAleese begins visit to Romania

Irish President Mary McAleese began, early on Tuesday, a state visit to Romania. A ceremony of the official reception by President Traian Basescu took place at Cotroceni presidential Palace. After the national anthems of the two countries were sung and the guard of honour reviewed, Basescu and McAleese introduced the official delegations.

At the end of talks, Basescu and McAleese will make press statements.

On Tuesday, the Irish head of state will hold talks with PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Bogdan Olteanu, deputy speaker of the Senate Doru Ioan Taracila.

On Wednesday, the last day of her visit, the president of Ireland will go to Cluj-Napoca, center of Romania, to meet professors and students from Babes-Bolyai University, local authorities. The high guest will be awarded a honoris causa doctor’s degree of Babes-Bolyai University. AGERPRES
