President Basescu receives American senator Richard G. Lugar at Cotroceni Palace

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Wednesday, August 27, received at Cotroceni Palace (presidential headquarters), Richard G. Lugar, Republican leader of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to a release, the American senator is visiting Romania as part of a new extensive program, that includes visits to the EU member states, states bordering the Black Sea and states in the Southern Caucasus.
The meeting between Traian Basescu and senator Lugar occasioned an exchange of opinions on the recent evolutions in the region. Approached were the implications of the conflict in Georgia, in the light of the humanitarian consequences of the military operations and as regards the impact over the main alternative transport projects of the energetic resources from the Caspian area towards Europe, the release reads.
