Romania-own analysis of Georgia situation to be referred to EU and NATO

President Traian Basescu announced on Friday that a detailed analysis will be carried out following his tour of several Black Sea countries, which will remitted at the end of next week to the French EU presidency, to partners from the EU and NATO allies.

In a statement at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace the next day after his return from this diplomatic tour, Basescu said that the reason of his visits to Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey had been the need to get an exact image of the impact the events in Georgia have had on the region and implicitly on Romania.

Traian Basescu said that the authorities in Bucharest had been anticipating since long the recent events in Georgia and added that he had not been mandated to tour the aforementioned states by a specific authority other than Romania, which is a Black Sea country that is highly interested in the region’s security.
