Enel to invest 220 million euros in Electrica Muntenia Sud over three years

Enel Romania will be investing 220 million euros over the next three years in upgrading the electricity distribution network operated by Electrica Muntenia Sud, and its investment budget for the following 15 years will stand at 1 billion euro, Electrica Muntenia Sud Director General Luigi Giliotti told a news conference on Wednesday. Gas prices to go up 12.5pc, electricity 4.4pc, as from July 1

The regulated gas prices will go up 12.5 percent, while the regulated electricity prices will advance 4.4 percent, both from July 1, the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) reports.
Thus, the new regulated prices for gas supply to household users will stand at RON 104.41 per MWh in the case of the gas supplied by EON GAZ Romania (a rise of 11.6 percent from the current prices), and RON 104.70 per MWh in the case of the gas supplied by Distrigaz Sud SA of Bucharest (up 12.5 percent from the current levels). The Worlds Record Academy included among its recorda the newspaper copy ”Zimbrulu and Vulturulu” (the Aurochs and the Eagle) as the most expensive newspaper in the world. The daily is showcased at the EFIRO 2008 World Philatelic Exhibition in Bucharest and it was registered to vie in a contest refereed by the world philatelic federation. Read more

June 2008 Corruption is part of daily life in Romania, with almost half of Romanians admitting to paying bribes. Now the EC is putting increasing pressure on the Romanian government to end bribery. It’s almost become compulsory. “They no longer mention it, you know what’s expected.” Some officials struggle against the rampant corruption but it often results in their dismissal. It’s an ongoing battle between the politicians exploiting corruption and those fighting it. But following a push from Europe a number of high profile politicians have been charged, to the delight of Romanians. “People want to see convictions.”
