Austria is one of Romania’s most important economic partners, says President Basescu

President Traian Basescu received on Thursday, March 6, at Cotroceni Palace, the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Alfred Gusenbauer, during the talks the head of the Romanian state underlining the importance given by Romania to the valuing, through joint projects, of the Austrian experience linked to the utilization of community funds.

According to a Presidential Administration release, Traian Basescu remarked the very good cooperation with Austria which is one of the most important economic partners of Romania.

As well, the two heads of state discussed the prospects of intensification of cooperation between the Danube riparian countries within the initiative of the Danube Cooperation Process, established following the joint proposal of Romania and Austria.

On this occasion, President Traian Basescu reiterated the objective of an increased role for the European Union (EU) in the Black Sea region and support granted by Romania to the progress on the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova and the West Balkan zone. Relations between Serbia and the EU were also approached, being pointed out the need to sustain these countries’ efforts in their interior reform moves.

According to the quoted source, other subjects debated on this occasion included the EU energy policy – the head of the Romanian state revealing priority given to Nabucco pipeline construction, the EU neighborhood policy and enlargement. ROMPRES
