Treichl: Erste listing, a historic moment for BVB
February 16, 2008
‘Romania is a key market for Erste Bank, and we have made a commitment to Romania and its development. We hope to strengthen the commitment today by our contribution to the development of the local capital market. This is undoubtedly a historic moment for Erste Bank, for the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and for local investors. Erste Bank shares offer Romanians an opportunity to capitalise on the long-term growth potentials of one of Europe’s most dynamic regions,’ Erste Bank CEO Andreas Treichl told a ceremony on Wednesday in Bucharest marking the international flotation of Erste Bank on the BVB.
‘The Erste listing is a first for both BVB and the capital market of Romania, because it is a first international flotation happening here. A new chapter in the history of the Romanian Bourse is opened for simultaneous trading on several exchanges of shares in the same issuer. This flotation will provide new opportunities for investment to local investors and a high degree of sophistication of investment behaviours. To intermediaries, the listing offers a possibility to use new instruments and mechanisms specific of emancipated markets,’ BVB Chairman Stere Farmache told the same ceremony.
Trade on BVB in Erste Bank shares started on Thursday, with the price per share going up 2.37 percent in one hour, to RON 142.4. The Erste Bank shares traded on the BVB are similar to the same shares traded on the Vienna Bourse. Their quotations are stated in lei (RON), the local currency in Romania. ROMPRES
