Referendum cannot be declared valid, rules Constitutional Court
November 29, 2007
The Constitutional Court confirmed on Thursday the results of the national referendum of November 25 on the introduction of the single-vote system, ruling the turnout was low in order to be validated.
The Constitutional Court rules that ‘’out of the total of 18,296,459 people on the lists for the referendum, the turnout was of 4,851,470 people, which is not enough for the validation of the referendum in line with the provisions of art.5 paragraph 2 of Law no3/2000 on the organization and unfolding of referendum with subsequent modifications and ad-ons,” rules the Court. For the validation of the referendum a turnout of half plus one of the overall number of voters is required. ROMPRES
