Government approves organization of referendum
October 30, 2007
In its meeting on Wednesday the Government approved five resolutions referring to the organization on November 25 of the referendum on the single vote initiated by President Traian Basescu, governmental sources told Rompres.
According to the law the Government must take the steps for organizing the referendum within 10 days after the Head of State started consulting the people, which were announced a week ago. Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said on Wednesday, at the beginning of the Government meeting, that they could not organize single polling stations for the euro-parliamentary elections and for the referendum on introducing the single vote.
Ministerial sources told Rompres that the single vote referendum initiated by President Traian Basescu would be held in separate rooms in keeping with the draft resolution to be debated in the Wednesday meeting of the Government. But the Cabinet will harmonize the programme of the referendum with the one of the elections for the European Parliament so that the two polls should be held in the same span of time, said the above-mentioned sources.
