Israeli soldiers kill two Palestinian children in north Gaza

August 22, 2007

Two Palestinian children aged 10 and 12 were killed and another child was severely wounded in an Israeli attack in north Gaza on Tuesday, a spokesman for a local hospital said.

Israeli soldiers said they had opened fire at a group of Palestinians who they thought were militants. “They were seen near launching pads used earlier in an attack against Israel,” an army source told a RIA Novosti correspondent.

Three Islamist Palestinian fighters were killed in an Israeli air raid in central Gaza earlier in the day, a Gaza City radio station reported, citing eyewitnesses.

A separate Israeli air strike on Monday killed six people, according to Palestinian medical officials. Tel Aviv said the men were members of a group that fired rockets into Israel.
