Romania’s foreign trade deficit nears 9 billion euros in H1 2007

Romania’s H1 2007 foreign trade deficit is expected to reach 8.98 billion euros, for exports of 14.77 billion euros and imports of 23.75 billion euros, according to the latest trend surveys released by the National Commission for Economic Projections (CNP).
H1 2007 results compared with H1 2006 figures indicate an estimated rise of 16.5 percent in total exports and an estimated increase by 18.3 percent in the exported output.
Q2 2007 exports were 8 percent larger than in Q1 2007, as a result of positive developments in the value of the exported output and a rise of 9.3 percent in industrial exports.
Goods exports in Q1 2007 appear to have gone up 6.3 percent from Q4 2006, mainly thanks to significant rises in this indicator in February and March 2007. Compared with Q4 2006, goods exports were 14.2 percent higher in Q1 2007, which is correlated with an increase of 13.8 percent in industrial exports in the same period.
As regards imports, they are expected to have gone up 28 percent in H1 2007, with an estimated rise of 13 percent in Q2 exports from Q1, to some 12.6 billion euros.
Q1 2007 exports were 7.3 percent smaller than Q4 2006 exports.
Romania’s Q1 2007 foreign trade deficit is expected to have reached 4.046 billion euros, down from 2.351 billion euros in Q1 2006.
The trade deficit in H1 2006 reached 5.849 billion euros. ROMPRES
