Patriarch Teoctist Funeral Obsequies on August 3rd. National Mourning Day

His Beatitude Teoctist, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church was awarded postmortem Romania`s highest civil order – ` Star of Romania` in Sash rank, according to a press release of the Presidency.

teoctistPresident Traian Basescu has signed the decree today `as a token of profound appreciation for a lifetime devoted to the Romanian Orthodox Church, to the idea of national unity and to the ecumenical ideal of bringing closer together all Christian churches.`

The Government is to declare national mourning day on August 3rd, when funeral obsequies will take place at the Patriarchy Cathedral. His Grace Vicentiu Ploiesteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch and spokesperson of the Holy Synod has announced the day of the obsequies reminding the Romanian people that back in 1986, the former Patriarch Iustin had been burried on August 3rd as well.

RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reiterates that Patriarch Teoctist passed away due to heartfailure complications following a prostate surgery undergone yesterday at Fundeni Clinical Institute in Bucharest. He was 92 years old and had been enthroned as Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1986. May God rest his soul in peace!
