The Senate’s Secretary Zoltan Puskas read on Wednesday during the joint parliamentary session President Traian Basescu’s letter to Parliament.
In the document, the head of state considered as unnecessary his presence in Parliament, which is to debate the Social Democrats’ proposal to suspend him.
‘I consider that all actions and statements I’ve made during my tenure as Romanian President observed the constitutional order,’ said Traian Basescu.
He said that the Constitutional Court will decide if the deeds imputed to him represent serious violations of the Constitution, while the Parliament’s vote will make clear his relations with the institution. In case a referendum for his suspension is organized, the people’s vote will confirm or reject the reasonableness of the political initiative of 182 senators and deputies.
In the end of the letter, the head of state assures the MPs that he wants a correct relation with the legislative body, meant to consolidate the state of law and fulfill the national interests. ROMPRES
