No suspicions of bird flu outbreaks in Romania
January 30, 2007
There are no bird flu outbreaks or suspicions of outbreaks in the Romanian territory at present, chairman of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) Marian Avram said on Tuesday.
‘The main reasons for concern arose after the three avian flu cases in Russia, which has prompted us to check how the county sanitary veterinary directorates are prepared, so as to have no problems related to logistics or human resources’, Avram said.
The sanitary veterinary specialists are taking samples on a daily basis from all the counties throughout Romania, both from wild and domestic fowl and they are closely monitoring the waters in the targeted communities, in the Danube Delta and Danube Meadow.
With respect to the bird flu outbreak detected in Hungary, 75 kilometres from the Romanian border, the ANSVSA chairman said the neighbouring country’s veterinary authorities have taken all the required measures, and the cooperation with the Hungarian side is extremely fast and efficient. ROMPRES
