President Traian Basescu has visited the silos at Popesti – Leordeni where archives of former Securitate are kept
December 29, 2006
Earlier today the President of Romania, Traian Basescu, visited the silos at Popesti – Leordeni where the archives of former Securitate are being kept. The Archives are now in the custody of the CNSAS – National College for the Study of Archives of former Securitate.
After the visit the President of Romania told the following to one of the reporters of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
President Traian Basescu: I can safely say now that the archives were given by SRI and SIE to the CNSAS. The delay had been caused by the fact that checking the files before having been sent to CNSAS would have taken too much time, we speak of about two million files, briefs and dossiers and this should have been done by the Mixed Commission SRI – CNSAS. They did not do it and part of the reason is that the material to be worked on is huge. Then I made the decision that the Services should relinquish the entire bulk to CNSAS. And this has been done.
Constantin Ticu Dumitrescu, a member of the National College for the Study of the Archives of Securitate, shares the view that the most important dossiers from the archives had already dissapeared.
Dumitrescu: There still are some surprises that we migt encounter, there, where the ` long arm of Securitate ` could not reach.
It is good though to have the entire archives of former Securitate, of the former Communist Prosecutors` Office and of the former Communist regime in our custody, at CNSAS.
What has been left , that is, said Ticu Dumitrescu in conclusion, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
