Romania’s President receives French Minister Delegate for European Affairs

The French Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Mme Catherine Colonna, who is paying a visit to Romania, conveyed her country’s salute for Romania’s joining the European Union on January 1, 2007, when she was received by President Traian Basescu at Cotroceni Palace on Thursday, reads a release sent to Rompres by the Presidential Administration.
The two officials approached topical subjects of the European, bilateral and international agenda. President Basescu appreciated the constant support France gave Romania in the process of domestic preparation but also in its relation with the other member states for the EU accession.
Traian Basescu assured that Romania will keep the speedy pace of reforms after the accession to the European Union on January 1, 2007 too and said that Romania was aware of the effort necessary for the EU accession proper. During the meeting the two personalities spoke of the diversity and intensity of the bilateral cooperation, which practically covers all the fields of common interest today.
“The traditional relation between Romania and France is a sound prerequisite for the assertion of a solid partnership in the period after January 1, 2007,” reads the release.
The head of state and the French Minister for European Affairs exchanged opinions on the means to apply this common outlook on the bilateral relations within the EU. A subject the two officials talked much about was also the access of the Romanian manpower to the labour market in France.
The agenda of the talks also featured topical questions at European level such as the EU energy policy, the common agricultural policy and the European neighbourhood policy as well as the blockage the ratification and the coming into force of the Constitutional Treaty seem to be in, informs the Presidency.
The head of state and the French minister also talked about aspects of the future enlargement of the EU. ROMPRES
